The game for mobile smartphones, Pokémon GO, is making waves all over – including Oregon Humane and other animal shelters! You may have seen information about a shelter in Muncie, Indiana which is encouraging people to come walk shelter dogs while playing Pokémon. Oregon Humane already has a crew of volunteer dog-walkers who ensure our canines get needed exercise each day. However, here are some ways you are encouraged to visit Oregon Humane and our PokéStops, Gym, and of course, the pets:

  • Public tours are now offered on Saturdays: just check in at the front desk in the lobby. Directions and hours here »
  • Visit our PokéStops & Gym while you’re waiting in our lobby to meet/adopt a pet.
  • Join our volunteer team if you’d like to walk dogs regularly. We’re always accepting new volunteers, and we have a youth program, too (ages 12-17).
  • And of course, you could always keep your phone in your pocket while you do walk dogs (Oregon Humane ones if you’re a volunteer; or your own dogs) to get your mileage in!
