Oregon Humane assisting with recovery efforts following historic flooding in Texas. More than 50 pets arrive at Oregon Humane Oct. 3
As communities in east Texas continue to recover after Tropical Depression Imelda dumped more than 40 inches of rain, the Oregon Humane is lending a helping hand. More than 50 pets from Beaumont Animal Care are headed to Oregon Humane to find their forever homes.
Oregon Humane is working with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and other regional rescues on this effort. These pets were in shelters before the flooding began, and moving them out of the area frees up resources for pets and pet owners needing help.
Oregon Humane’s off-site Cat and Kitten Intake Center will be used to facilitate this transfer, which includes 50 felines. The Center, opened in July, is specifically designed to receive large transports of cats and kittens. Five dogs are also part of today’s transfer of pets to Oregon Humane and will be received at the main Oregon Humane shelter.
“Oregon Humane’s offsite Cat and Kitten Intake Center allows us to bring in these large transports of pets, which is particularly helpful after a natural disaster,” says Sharon Harmon, Oregon Humane President and CEO. “We’re glad to assist our partners at HSUS and the communities in Texas affected by this devastating flood.”
