Five of the 41 dogs rescued from a breeder in Jackson County will be offered for adoption at Oregon Humane this Friday, Feb. 6. The group includes three Cavalier King Charles spaniels and two shih tzus.

The dogs came to Oregon Humane on Jan. 28 as part of a joint rescue operation between Jackson County Animal Services and Oregon Humane (story and video here). The owner had previously been cited for operating a kennel without a license and was the subject of repeated visits by authorities, who advised the owner that unsanitary conditions and a lack of bedding for the dogs were violations of state law.

The remaining dogs in the care of Oregon Humane should be available for adoption next month. Many of the dogs are receiving major medical care at Oregon Humane and are expected to be fully recovered and ready for their new homes in early March. Oregon Humane also rescued 12 exotic birds; and more information on their adoption status should be available next week.

Adopters interested in the five dogs to be offered this Friday are advised that the dogs will be shown on a first-come, first-served basis, and that advanced holds are not possible. Oregon Humane cannot take phone inquiries about the pets, but will have staff available to answer questions in person beginning Friday morning when the shelter opens at 10 am. The shelter is located at 1067 NE Columbia Blvd., Portland, OR 97211.

Photographs of the dogs and additional information will be posted early Friday morning on the Oregon Humane website. Adopters should check the rescued pets section. No other information is available at this time.
